Santa Fe, NM- March 2, 2009-- I received a series of e-mails from a NM State Senator concerning the new proposed law and it looks as if the bill will be pulled from the session. This means that there will be no changes to the current security statutes, regulations, etc.
The draft legislation looked promising but it did not look the same when it came out of the committee. The main changes were omitting basically every good addition to the current law. The final proposed bill made it a misdemeanor to own an unlicensed security or investigation company but it would only be a felony after three convictions...
It was no surprise that NM Regulation and Licensing Division stated that they would not be able to enforce the new law or current regulations due to their budget cuts. I didn't ever see much enforcement by RLD, it's funny they mention that they will have to "cut back."
