Bellevue, NE Mar 14 2009 - A wild attempted bank robbery in Bellevue Friday afternoon left a security officer injured and Tased while others are still scratching their heads.
Two men with attempted to rob the First National Bank on Pratt Avenue near Highway 75 and Cornhusker according to police but failed in their plan.
The strange robbery started as a burglary into the bank at around 7a.m. Friday morning. A worker at a nearby business saw two men bash a window at the bank and climb inside. The witness quickly called 911. Once inside the bank, the men attacked a security officer. Police say that the men hit him on the head with a stun gun then used a taser on him. They also pulled a handgun and forced a clerk to open the vault.
Police said that numerous officers soon arrived on the scene and immediately gave foot chase to one of the men who had exited the bank. The second suspect was also quickly apprehended and taken into custody. Police say the suspects were identified as 34-year-old Michael McCroy and 33-year-old Shannon Jackson, both of Omaha Nebraska . Police have charged both men with burglary, robbery, felony assault and weapon charges. "The security officer was injured treated at the scene by the Bellvue Volunteer Fire Department according to a police report. He's a little shook up right now," said David Stukenholtz from Bellevue police. Police said the taser used by the suspects on the security officer was real, but the gun was just a toy.
