The following is a list of items that security consumers should verify before making the decision to hire a firm.
- A state security “PPO” license is required in New Mexico. Verify it!
- Worker’s Compensation insurance is required by NM law. Verify it!
- Each guard must be licensed by the state and trained to standards
- Verify that the security firm has Commercial General Liability insurance
- Verify vehicle insurance (if one is used at your location)
- Verify a city business license and NM state Tax certificate
- Get at least three client references and call them personally
- Verify litigation history of the security firm as this may be a indication of past performance. Unsuspecting security consumer businesses are often named as co-defendants in lawsuits.
Security consumers should insist on a written agreement that details all expectations for the security service to be provided. In addition, consumers should review and receive the specific “post orders” that will be given to the guards assigned to the business location. Business owners should be given copies of the individual guard’s license to insure compliance with New Mexico law and training.
