I am disappointed with the State of New Mexico for how they have handled the security industry. New Mexico is a beautiful place to live and a good place to work but it is hard to make a living in security either as an company owner or guard. One of the main reasons that it is hard is the situation with illegal and unlicensed companies. The state has known about this problem for years but they have made NO changes to improve the situation for us in the industry. Nobody can say that the State doesn't know about this problem. They have this blog to look at, the news and radio have also done many stories.
I know a lot of people getting out of the industry and leaving the state to work in other places where laws are made to be followed and wages are higher. It is hard to have respect for myself as a security guard when I am in an industry filled with thugs, criminals, murders, pimps, dope dealers, felons carrying firearms and I would say a predominately unlicensed guard force.
Things are getting pretty bad out here with the economy. My company is losing contracts because people can't afford our services and we are laying people off. We lost a big contract recently because the client found out about all of the rules/ laws being violated by the company I worked for and they quit. They took the security in-house because they though they could do it better. The fact is- they probably could. Mr. Hamic asked me to be an author and I decided to because he is the only person that uses his real name and gives evidence. Like him or not- he is trying to do good for this industry and he is shedding a lot of light on things that have been going on for a long time. No one else has the guts to do what he has been doing for 6 months or more.
I really hope that the State of New Mexico finally starts enforcing its regulations and laws but I don't think they will. I am looking for work out of this state.
