The number published on the state web site (505-476-4650) is directed to an employee's voice mail. The message states that this employee won't be in the office for 3-4 weeks. I called RLD to see if there was another number and I was directed to another voice mail of Steve Herrera. I left a message around noon yesterday and I haven't received a call back.
I was calling because I am investigating two companies that are advertising and I believe to be unlicensed. There is no way to verify a company name on the state web site and it must be done manually with a person at the PI Board. I hope that these companies aren't owned by felons and don't have felon security guards carrying guns while they provide security in New Mexico. I don't know what a complaint would do anyway based on past experiences.
I think we are all concerned that the New Mexico Private Investigator's Board isn't accountable to our industry and it is inaccessible. There has been a lot of recent talk about improvements in this Board. Don't call the Board to talk about it because no one is answering the phone.
